Ingeborg Kuper
I have been working as a clinical geriatrician at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2016. If any questions arise concerning my field of expertise during admission, I can offer advice. Some patients are referred to my clinic before their treatment. A clinical geriatrician specializes in elderly people who often face multiple health conditions.
Common causes to visit a geriatrician are problems walking/falling, polypharmacy (the use of multiple types of medication at once), the inexplicable decline in care for oneself/physical shape, memory impairment, delirium (acute confusion). Even if there are no symptoms, it can be useful to assess the patient's overall health before the start of the treatment. For optimal care for older patients with cancer, we need to be mindful of these matters. I greatly appreciate that the Netherlands Cancer Institute is open to this way of work.
