After my head and neck surgery fellowship at the Netherlands Cancer Institute through the Dutch Cancer Society in 1987, I have worked in several different hospitals. I came back to the NKI in 1995 as a member of staff at the Head and Neck Oncology Department. I greatly enjoy my work and the contact with my colleagues is excellent. Combining clinical patient care with research is always an enjoyable challenge.
I primarily focus on Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), rehabilitation after total laryngectomy, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, an illness most common in Indonesia. Through the support of the Dutch Cancer Society, we set up several programs together with the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta.
As of April 1, 2006, I have been working as a head and neck surgeon at Maastricht UMC, where I train fellows and implement innovative treatment forms. I still keep ties with the Netherlands Cancer Institute as part of collaborative research projects.
