Peter Seerden
I have been working as a nurse at the Netherlands cancer institute since 1990. I specialize in psychiatry and oncology and have worked as an oncology nurse for many years. Then I worked as a team leader at one of the wards for a few years, and I have been working as a nurse consultant in psychiatry as of 2005.
At the Netherlands Cancer Institute I closely collaborate with my closest colleagues in a psychiatric team that is part of a larger psychosocial team. My role is threefold: patient care, supporting medical professionals (physicians and oncology nurses) in terms of patient care, and the development of expertise.
I have a lot of experience with patients who are considered vulnerable and who have a hard time enduring in a complicated hospital like the Netherlands Cancer Institute and who need personalized guidance. Consider vulnerable elderly people, patients with psychiatric diagnoses, patients who cannot endure their treatment or whose treatment relationships are disrupted. I mainly try to alleviate anxiety, offer (more) safety, and expanding the supportive network to start treatment and complete them adequately.
