Marise Neijman
I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as a speech therapist and PhD student since 2020. The combination of my roles is especially interesting, as clinical patient care and science come together. As a speech therapist and researcher, I treat and guide patients who are experiencing problems with swallowing, speaking, language, or their voice or hearing as a result of their treatment. As a PhD student, I conduct scientific research into functional solutions, rehabilitation, and quality of life after a full laryngectomy under the supervision of Prof. Dr. van den Brekel, Dr. van der Molen, and Dr. van Son.
This combination between research and clinical practice challenges me and makes me feel fulfilled. I am happy to be able to make a difference in the lives of my patients. We house a lot of expertise at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and the work atmosphere is pleasant, open, and motivating.
