The Netherlands Cancer Institute allows me to combine direct patient care with scientific research.
I treat patients with lung cancer, oesophageal cancer, or stomach cancer. It is always a challenge to adapt my surgery to my patient's further treatment. My main research focus is on the treatment of esophageal and stomach carcinomas.
I also head the multidisciplinary Gastroenterological tumor work group, which prioritizes the quality of care that patients with gastrointestinal malignancies receive throughout the entire care chain.
Outside of the hospital, I lead the Dutch Upper GI Cancer Audit (DUCA) and the Dutch Gastric Cancer Group (DGCG). We use the national audit data to better define improvements in health care, while the DGCG mainly coordinates national gastric cancer studies.
