Nurse Navigator
The Netherlands Cancer Institute nurse navigator is a trained care provider with expertise on the ways cancer can affect your everyday life, and that of your loved ones. Your condition and its treatment often cause physical ailments, but can also affect your mental health, social life, or worldview. You may notice a change in your emotions, energy levels, fatigue, movement, or nutrition. This may affect your daily life or work, relationships, or sense of purpose.
What can we do for you?
The right care at the right time can have a positive effect on your treatment process. The Netherlands Cancer Institute offers patients optimal and highly personalized supportive care alongside medical treatment. Our nurse navigator plays an important role in the process.
During a consultation, our nurse navigator can provide information and advice applicable to your personal situation. The consultation will center around awareness and potential measures you can take to alleviate some of the problems or prevent them from getting worse. You will get personalized advice on your options for supportive care and treatment. Common topics are emotions, social networks, nutrition, exercise, work, or sense of purpose.
If necessary, the nurse navigator can refer you to a paramedical or psychosocial care provider at the Survivorship Center at the NKI, or a care provider in your area. Your consultations with the nurse navigator can take place during or after your treatment. If you prefer, you can have a phone consultation instead.
