Psychiatry

We are specialized in the diagnostics and treatment of psychological and psychiatric symptoms in patients with cancer. Besides diagnostics and treatment of patients, we offer recommendations to physicians (at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and elsewhere) about patients with psychological or psychiatric problems and cancer.

We also offer support, guidance, and training to employees at the Netherlands Cancer Institute when needed, to further improve our care for patients with psychological or psychiatric symptoms and cancer.

Our team

Our multidisciplinary team consists of  professionals across many disciplines: psychiatrists, a clinical nurse specialist, and a consultant psychiatric nurse. We closely collaborate with other parties at the Survivorship Center (CKvL), such as:  medical psychologists, a sexuologist, the supportive care team, medical social workers, and the spiritual care team at the Netherlands Cancer Institute.

We also collaborate with medical specialists, clinical nurse specialists, nurses, and people from other disciplines at the hospital.

We are a supraregional center, which means that we can contact physicians from other hospitals or institutions. Offering a personalized treatment through commitment and involvement in your individual situation is our founding principle.

Behandelmogelijkheden

We bieden specifieke behandeling aan patiënten met gecombineerde psychiatrische en lichamelijke problemen door kanker. We starten met diagnostiek. Afhankelijk van uw klachten en uw ziekte kan de behandeling bestaan uit medicatie of gesprekken (psychotherapeutisch van aard of steunend structurerend) of een combinatie hiervan. Dit kan individueel of met uw partner zijn. Tijdens uw afspraken wordt telkens geëvalueerd of de behandeling nog aansluit bij uw situatie.

Referral

If you are receiving treatment at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, you can receive a referral to the psychiatry department from your practicing physician, clinical nurse specialist, supportive consultant, or anyone seeing you at the Survivorship Center (psychologist or medical social worker).

Samenstelling team en samenwerking

We werken intensief samen met de psychologen, een seksuoloog, medisch maatschappelijk werkers en geestelijke verzorgers.

Daarnaast ook met andere medisch- en verpleegkundig specialisten, verpleging en andere disciplines en teams in het ziekenhuis, zoals de pijnartsen, neurologen en het supportive care team. En omdat wij een supraregionaal centrum zijn, werken we zo nodig samen met behandelaars uit het hele land. Het bieden van behandeling op maat door betrokkenheid bij u en uw individuele situatie is hierbij steeds het uitgangspunt.

Wetenschappelijk onderzoek

Het kan voorkomen dat we u vragen of u zou willen deelnemen aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek. We informeren u dan over het onderzoek. U kunt zelf beslissen of u meedoet aan het onderzoek. Dit heeft geen consequenties voor uw psychologische of psychiatrische behandeling.
