Aletta Houwink
I studied medicine in Amsterdam and have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as an anesthesiologist-intensivist since 2015. This means that I am an anesthesiologist and Intensive Care specialist. As an anesthesiologist, I make sure that my patients receive adequate pain treatments and are as physically stable as possible during surgery. As an intensivist, I treat patients after major surgery and patients who are critically ill. They need additional organ support and monitoring like ventilation or measures to raise blood pressure.
Patient care is central to my treatment. Safety, teamwork, and focus on the patient are the reasons I work at the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
