John Haanen
I started working as a medical oncologist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in 2001. I specialize in the treatment of patients with metastatic melanomas or kidney cell cancer. Next to my patient care, I head the Medical Oncological Disciplines. My research primarily focuses on the body's immune response to cancer. There have been many new developments in the field over the past years.
Treatment for metastatic melanomas and kidney cell cancer has seen tremendous improvements. We have been able to extend the lifespan of people with metastatic melanomas and kidney cell cancer through our new treatment options, although we aren't quite able to offer curative treatment yet. Through further research, my team hopes to further expand our patients' lifespan.
