I have been connected to the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2006. As a physicist, I am responsible for the technical side of radiation treatment. Working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute is fun and challenging because it is always centered around the improvement of care using the latest technology.
I have two focus areas: in-vivo dosimetry, in which we check the radiation dose in patient treatment. The software developed for this purpose is now also marketed by a commercial partner. I also concern myself with internal radiation. This involves the
administering of radioactive seeds that can deliver radiation to the tumor from inside of the body. This requires close contact between all professions - a collaboration I always find enjoyable.
