I have been working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 1989, and specialize in the treatment of breast cancer with radiotherapy. We use state-of-the-art radiotherapy techniques in our treatment, such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy, adaptive radiotherapy, partial breast radiotherapy, and deep inspiration breath-hold radiation techniques to minimize damage to the heart. Clinical trials are essential to define the best aim for radiotherapy in specific situations.
My other research concerns survivorship, in collaboration with fundamental researchers, with a focus on the cause (and treatment) of the side effects of radiotherapy. We mainly investigate the effects it has on the cardiovascular system, new cancer induction, and survivorship.
